MFHD Internship Policy
December 2000
The internship is not required, but it is highly recommended. Faculty and advisement center personnel should promote the internship experience as a desirable part of the undergraduate experience.
To strengthen the internship offering we will:
1. Increase emphasis on internships in the MFHD department:
Complete 30 additional hours from MFHD courses
The 30 additional hours may be in any combination you choose.
Some examples of a particular focus are listed below. Consider
an internship that complements your area of study once you
have completed at least 3 of the 5 core courses and several courses
in your area of study. The * indicates that concurrent enrollment in
an internship is highly recommended when you register for this
course.
*MFHD 356
*MFHD 498
*other courses?
2. Cap the number of internship offerings based on the best estimate of student applicants. Select the best internship sites for "continuing status" in our program.
3. Set earlier application deadlines for internships:
4. Cluster internship offerings to coincide with possible areas of focus in the department.
5. Periodically review internship requirements through both faculty and student input to update and ensure relevance of assignments.
6. Engage faculty in promoting and clarifying the internship offerings.
