1. Child and Family Studies Laboratory Steering Committee
- Chair: Clyde Robinson
- Members: Susanne Olsen, Craig Hart, Jean Larsen (Teacher Education, Emeritus); Tina Dyches (Couns. and Special Ed.), Anne Ure (lab administrator), Roberta Magarrell.

Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily operations of and establish policies for the CFS Laboratory (e.g., curriculum, admission, student teaching, demonstration teaching, tuition issues, physical facilities, health, safety)
- Oversee and approve research conducted in the CFS Laboratory
- Oversee personnel issues related to the CFS Laboratory (e.g., hiring, salary)
- Coordinate with faculty and other programs that use the labs (e.g., Home Economics)
- Evaluate CFS Laboratory personnel in coordination with lab administrator
- Oversee parent/family life education/involvement (parent advisory council)
- Oversee coordination of ancillary personnel regarding children with special needs
- Coordinate and oversee summer programs
- Provide input into new CFS Lab Facilities plan
and transition to the new building
Coordinate with ECE certification program in Teacher education.
2. Curriculum and Teaching Committee Chair: Bernard Poduska (*regular duties)
Responsibilities:

- Monitor undergraduate curriculum fidelity and eliminate redundancy, recommend adjustments
- Create curriculum map with objectives and coherent program framework
- Explore technology issues and implement technology-based teaching
- Oversee the development of independent study and on-line MFHD courses
- Implement ways to encourage more student writing and instructor feedback
- Formalize list of attributes we want to cultivate in our majors (see college guidelines)
- Create service learning opportunities within course-work. This is separate from internships. Contact Jacobson Center for guidelines and register applicable
courses there.
- Assure Family Proclamation is integrated into every course (Charge from Jim Harper)
- Foster and coordinate mentored student environments B
teaching through research, writing, seminars (use to be called research learning but donors don=
t like that terminology). Honors theses, research teams with faculty (as special classes), faculty/student conference paper presentations/publications, field schools, etc. Coordinate with center/institute seminars. Approve special faculty undergraduate research seminars in place of regular teaching load.
- Help coordinate readings packets for courses
- Create, maintain, and oversee MFHD Advisement Web site (online advising)
- Set and monitor fair and equitable policies for paid and unpaid TAs
- Study and make recommendations for the minor (as envisioned by Alan Hawkins)
- Coordinate with SFL internship program (help with semester away programs B

- Establish a mechanism for students to attend the internship fair and become acquainted with internship/job placement possibilities early in their program. Track curriculum courses toward internship experience (Charge from Jim Harper).
- Explore curriculum cross listings and connections with other departments
- *Monitor graduate student teaching and adjunct faculty teaching
- *Assure MFHD commitments to Freshman Academy are being met
- *Recommend adjunct faculty for religion and family history (2 from MFHD)
- *Coordinate curriculum with other departments (assure MFHD gets credit when we teach cross-listed courses)
- *Handle daily undergraduate student curriculum concerns
- *Evaluate transfer credit
- *Perform ombudsman role in student/teacher disputes, concerns, complaints, grievances

3. Productivity and Annual Review Committee (PAR)

Responsibilities:
- Update and evaluate forms, formula, and policies for assessing annual merit points for each faculty member as needed
- Conduct annual faculty evaluations (these subsume post-tenure review required by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges)
- Update and evaluate written expectations for new MFHD Program faculty (and continuing faculty) as needed
- Update and evaluate academic journal ranking protocol as needed
- Assure faculty mentoring program is in place for new faculty (evaluate annually)
- Consider structural changes that can help improve scholarly output and grant writing
- Evaluate how MFHD program scholarship is being translated into application
- Assess and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration of MFHD faculty with associated faculty
- Conduct annual evaluation for MFHD graduate faculty status, including FL&HEE faculty
- Implement and coordinate faculty peer review process (teaching).
4. MFHD Faculty Development and Student Scholarship Committee
- Chair: Randy Day
- Members: Brent Barlow, Maxine Rowley, Kelly McCoy
Responsibilities:
1. Recommend student awards (including valedictorians, scholarships)
2. Create venues for annual student scholarship and awards presentations (coordinate within SFL)
3. Oversee retirement festivities (coordinate appropriate activities like those for Wes Burr)
4. Coordinate regular MFHD research symposiums
5. Facilitate faculty access to University resources as needed (e.g., Faculty Center)
6. Organize faculty/graduate student socials
7. Help faculty and students develop friendships for the Church and the University
8. Find ways to facilitate the professional development of females for future faculty

Responsibilities:
- Regularly attend graduate faculty meetings (for committee members only B
except for extenuating circumstances cleared by coordinator; All members attend when a full graduate faculty meeting is called)
- Help establish and implement policies for masters and doctoral program that are included in and updated regularly in the MFHD Graduate Program Handbook
- Help oversee graduate coursework requirements and implementation
- Chair masters and doctoral degree students (No more than 2-3 chair assignments per faculty B
new asst. profs encouraged to co-chair first grad. student with senior faculty member).
- Serve on graduate student committees (serve on or chair at least 3 graduate student committees).
- Maintain an ongoing program of scholarship that involves graduate students (minimum expectations are two professional publications every 3 years).
- Participate in graduate student admissions
- Participate in graduate student evaluations
- Participate in the development and implementation of policies for doctoral exams (as needed)
- Participate in recruitment and placement of graduate students
- Serve on graduate program committees as assigned by coordinator
6. MFHD Search Committee

Responsibilities:
- Keep a running, updated list of potential candidates for faculty positions
- Conduct hiring process within the framework of university guidelines
- Promote recruiting of the best qualified candidates
- Coordinate and facilitate campus visits in the interview process
7. Romanian Steering Committee
- Internship Operations Coordinator: Roberta Magarrell

Responsibilities:
- Oversee Romanian internship program operations
- Make regular site visits (funded by the Kennedy Center)
- Develop and oversee curriculum for Romanian Intern Program
- Develop and coordinate viable research in the orphanages.
